My Top 7: Best in Show at IDS13
I always get excited when IDS rolls around – getting to explore & discover all the emerging trends in decor, colour and furniture design is something that I enjoy investing a little time in.
This year was no different than last. With hundreds of booths to visit, each offering something more beautiful than the last, I painstakingly narrowed down my favourites to 7… and a few honourable mentions!
Best in Show at IDS13
1 // Earth Inc., Designed Landscapes. I fell in love with this outdoor space the moment I walked in. From the lush plants and wood burning cauldron to the rustic dining table, this outdoor space was definitely a place I could see myself. Now only if I could recreate it in my backyard…
2 // Ehoeho. This gorgeous concept coffee table was the first thing that really caught my eye when I arrived at IDS. Product designer Endri Hoxha, chatted with me about the materials, the finishes, and the two different models that would soon be available (one of which will be in Ryerson’s Architectural Science Faculty Lounge). I also couldn’t help but love the cork wine coaster…
3 // The Felt Store. It was nice to see this bold pop of colour on the showroom floor. I just loved this circular clock display – so fun & whimsical.
4 // Native Trails. I have a thing for eco-friendly, handmade items. These vanities in Native Trails’ Renewal Series derive from sustainable bamboo and are topped with hand hammered recycled copper basins. All handmade pieces that respect the earth’s resources.
5 // Muma Fine Woodworking. Rustic looking woods with unfinished edges seemed to be the theme of the show… however, I didn’t come across anything else that could compare to this gorgeous console table by Muma. The beautifully finished natural top mixed with dark stained, notched legs… so nice.
6 // Urban Barn. I loved this beachy vignette with its cool, calm, and tranquil elements… makes me want to own a beach-front cottage.
7 // Metropolis Factory. You must all know by now that I have a thing for reclaimed industrial items, so when I came across the Metropolis Factory at IDS it was like reclaimed industrial heaven…
Honourable Mentions:
1 // Wood Stone Metal Inc. I need this wine rack in my house… enough said.
2 // Living Lighting on King. Living Lighting had such a unique and stunning light wall… not to mention a stunning wood/twig chandelier.
