Mother’s Day is just around the corner (May 10th), and I think it’s fair to say… this year’s Mother’s Day is going to look a little bit different for everyone.
Whether you are celebrating at home with your immediate family, joining the extended family on Zoom, or quietly reminiscing and reflecting alone, please find strength in knowing mothers around the world are all experiencing this new and complicated “normal.”
Unprecedented situation aside, it’s more important than ever to celebrate the superhero in your life – mom! She’s strong, caring, gentle, kind, funny, and all-around the most loving person, you’ll ever meet. She’s done it all… rocked you sleep, kissed and bandaged “boo-boos,” cleaned up every type of identifiable (and unidentifiable) substance from the floors, walls, ceilings, made your lunches, played chauffeured, attended every sporting event, dance recital, school play, and graduation, held you while you cried, and held you while you laughed. She’s been there through thick and thin, big and small, long and short… all while putting her needs second.
“To the world you are a mother, but to your family you are the world.”unknown
I have no doubt your mom (or baby-mama) has been hustling through this pandemic… I know I have! Between work, cooking, cleaning and wrangling a 15-month old, I have had very little time for any type of self-care. As I type this, I am on day 4 without a shower.
When I sat down to think about what I wanted most for Mother’s Day I could really only come up with three things:
- A meal cooked by someone other than myself
- Some snuggle time with Emily
- A bath
I don’t think it’s too far of a stretch to suggest this is what all moms in your life want right now!
Lucky for you, I have juuuuust the thing to go along with that bath… a very easy DIY sugar body scrub! This quick and inexpensive DIY is made with staples you might already have in your pantry (if not, you still have time to order them), so you can get to work on this stat!
DIY Rose Sugar Body Scrub
Since a trip to the spa is pretty much off the table this Mother’s Day, why not bring the spa to mom with a sugar scrub! Homemade scrubs are my favourite self-care items to make. They come together quickly, you can make as little or as much as you like, they make excellent gifts, and there are so many ways to customize!
This super easy Rose Sugar Body Scrub is a quick gift idea that uses two staples you may already have in your pantry – sugar and coconut oil. The sugar works as a gentle exfoliant, polishing away dry skin, while the coconut oil moisturizes and softens the skin. The beautiful scent of rose is subtle and feminine (it reminds me of my favourite body lotion from the Fairmont hotels), and it lingers ever-so-slightly! If your mom is not a fan of rose, you can always try my coffee scrub (because I don’t know a single mom who would say “no” to coffee!!)! Package it up in a sweet little gift basket with some other relaxation essentials (might I suggest tea, bath salts, scrub brushes and candy) and surprise mom on Mother’s Day!Print
