Game On! Birthday Party Fun with Mattel
Ever since I was 6 years old I have loved playing board games. My sisters and I would play them for hours, and it’s safe to say we literally had a closet full. There was Aladdin, Little Mermaid, Guess Who, Shopping Mall Madness, Clue, Mad Gab, Snakes and Ladders… the list goes on and on.
It wasn’t until recently that “J” and I started to have “game nights” with our friends. So when Mattel asked me if I would be interested in hosting a “Game On Birthday Party” I jumped at the chance (because what’s a birthday party without fun games?)!
After submitting my Gameology profile on Mattel’s Facebook page, they sent me several games best suited to my personality. Since I am a “Wittian” (Wittians are cunning players who enjoy the psychology of gameplay), I received five games that require skill; Uno, Skipbo, Mad Gab, Apples to Apples, and Pictionary.
Mattel was also kind enough to send along some goodies for my party guests, including bottle openers, fortune cookies, and coasters. Their fun party checklist also can in handy; keeping me focused and on track! I spent nearly all afternoon prepping the food, while “J” spent a good 3 hours cleaning the house from top to bottom (divide and conquer, right?).
We had quiet the spread if I can say so myself! Everything from Jerk Chicken, Shrimp & Portabella Kabobs to White Chocolate Cupcakes with Buttercream Cream Cheese Frosting. I even made soft pretzel bites, which are surprisingly easy to make, and super addictive!
After filling up to the brim with good food and drinks, we were ready to get down to business! Up first was Uno. After a few hilarious and heated rounds, we decided to try out Apples to Apples. I had never played Apples to Apples before, so after reading through the simple instructions we got started. Let me just say we never stopped playing – everyone loved this game!
By the time 3:00am rolled around we were ready to pack it in! Thanks to Mattel for making my birthday party fun and exciting! I for one, cannot wait to try out the rest of the games, and take on some of my friends in round two!
What are some of your favourite board games?
